Placement – Music and Industry Events Assistant 15h per week

This micro-placement is available to 2nd or 3rd year students who may not have had relevant work experience related to their studies.  

The placement will be based within Solent University for the equivalent of 2 days (15 hours) a week (7.5 hours per day) for up to 10 weeks.  

You will need to register with Campus Jobs if you are successful at the interview.  

Students may wish to use this placement towards a placement requirement of their course or outside of their course.

The placement is only available to Solent undergraduates who meet the following criteria:  

  • Studying towards a Bachelor’s degree at Solent University  
  • Studying towards their 2nd or 3rd year 
  • Have not taken part in the Micro –placement scheme June – July  2018   
  • Have no work experience in a professional office environment  related to their studies  
  •  Students holding a visa will need to check their Biometrics Residence Card (BRP) for work conditions

About the role  

To support the music scheme in the co-ordination and administration of gigs, concerts and events.  


  • To document and film projects (all music courses)
  • To organise industry showcase and recording / filming sessions for students, as required
  • To develop links with other courses throughout the university, building on established links and creating new opportunities for cross-course collaboration between staff and students
  • To engage with the local music community in Southampton and create / develop performance links and opportunities both within and outside of the university
  • To establish and develop links with industry / employers / sponsors
  • To support the music scheme in the co-ordination and administration of ‘Solent Sound’ (college recruitment project)  
  • To liase and assist with student contribution to ‘Solent Music’. This will involve preparing and proof-reading articles, bio’s, running interviews and assisting with electronic press kits and updating the social media platforms on a regular basis. 
  • Demonstrate the University’s values of respect, ownership, integrity, engagement, inclusivity and team work  
  • Ensuring accurate input of data into university systems including the appropriate  handling of data in accordance with established University policies and procedures 

About You

  • The candidate should have a competent knowledge and understanding of Popular music, with interest in performance and/or production 
  • The ability to work with photo, video and audio editing software is required
  • The ability to create and manage social media content is required
  • The candidate will be required to demonstrate professional fluency in English with the ability to write in a journalistic style  
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Ability to initiate ideas and work independently
  • The candidate will need to be organised and efficient 

Timings of the scheme  

Please apply by midnight of Sunday 18 November. Interviews will take place between 28 November and 7 December.  

You will need to be available to attend an on boarding (induction) for this placement on Wednesday 9 January, 2018, which will take place at Solent University.
