Film Assistant placement - 7.5 hours per week

Doing a work placement is a fantastic way to learn about the professional world. It will build your confidence and look great on your CV. Employers look for it, so it will give you the edge when it’s time to start your career and it can lead to job offers in the future.

This micro-placement is available to 2nd or 3rd year students who may not have had relevant work experience related to their studies.

The placement will be based within Solent University for 7.5 hours per week for 20 weeks (term-time only).

You will need to register with Campus Jobs if you are successful at the interview.

Students may wish to use this placement towards a placement requirement of their course or outside of their course. Please specify in your Cover message if you are planning to use this experience as part of a core work placement unit. 

Responsibilities: 

  • To create and co-ordinate the Solent Film Forum on a monthly basis.
  • To plan, create content and send a quarterly newsletter to students promoting the film opportunities and events.
  • To analyse the data from the newsletters and ensure they are GDPR compliant.
  • To co-ordinate a bi-monthly screening event.
  • Set up a monthly speed film networking event. 
  •  Work to deadlines and be able to motivate oneself to get a job done to a high standard.
  • Work in accordance with relevant internal and external quality standards and benchmarks and ensure activity is informed by best practice. 
  • Demonstrate the University’s values of respect, ownership, integrity, engagement, inclusivity and team work.
  • Ensuring accurate input of data into university systems including the appropriate handling of data in accordance with established University policies and procedure. 

About you:

  • Studying towards a Bachelor’s degree at Solent University
  • In their 2nd or 3rd year.
  • Have no work experience in a professional office environment.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK full-time without restriction for the duration of the placement.
  • Students holding a visa will need to check their Biometrics Residence Card (BRP) for work conditions.
  • Working knowledge of (or quick learner) of newsletter software/web based services.
  • Some knowledge of putting together a newsletter (editorially) or at least a willingness to learn would be an advantage.
  • Experience working in a team and to deadlines.
  • Experience running events/shoots a distinct advantage.
  • The ability read and write to a good standard is important.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to delegate a distinct advantage.
  • Basic design skills would also be an advantage.
