Senior Education Officer
The Education Officer for Community Programmes role is to effectively lead the delivery of the Community programme including development, implementation and evaluation. You will maintain our current activities for community groups, identify new audiences and develop projects to support on- and off-site learning for groups and individuals currently under-represented among the Wallace Collection's visitors. Programmes will be devised around both the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions.
- Overall responsibility for the effective strategic management of the museum’s provision for community groups, ensuring that it is of the highest possible quality and that programmes meet their objectives and targets.
- To maintain and increase participation in established community programmes. Typical audiences include the homeless and socially excluded, individuals with mental health issues, those attending day centres or in residential care homes, refugees and asylum seekers and people living with dementia.
- Teaching or supporting educators on community activities onsite and offsite.
- Ensure that the community programme is thoroughly evaluated and that regular reports are produced and acted upon.
- Work closely with the Head of Education and the Development team on fundraising initiatives to support the museum’s work with community groups.
- Advocate the museum’s work with community groups, and its wider learning work, internally and externally.
- Assist with data collection, evaluation and statistics.
- To identify new audiences and devise programmes to suit these audiences both on- and off-site.
- To manage the Wallace Collection’s team of Community Ambassadors, including their recruitment and training. This is yearly programme for refugees and asylum seekers to become a tour guides for the Museum.
- To assist other Education staff in maintaining the Studio and its supplies.
- To manage a team of freelance artists and educators and offer training as required for specific education projects.
- Manage the Community budget with the Education Officer: Access & Hospital Outreach Programmes.
- Maintain an up to date knowledge of best practice in outreach and community development work, in order to provide the best possible service.
- Market sessions to target groups.
- Undertake any other duties or responsibilities that fall within the scope, grade and spirit of the post.
- Experience of working with community groups in a museum context
- Direct first-hand knowledge of working with people that are often socially
- Teaching experience in a museum setting
- Degree in Art History, Fine Art or a related field.
- Contacts with, or a willingness to build contacts with, charities, community and voluntary organisations working in similar areas.
- Confidence in working with this audience and the ability to lead freelance educators working on these programmes
- Experience of working with families, vulnerable adults, people with mental health issues and access needs would be beneficial.
