The Solent LEP is looking for two degree apprentices who are passionate about kick-starting their career in economic development, working with business across industry. We are not focused on your qualifications but are looking for drive, creativity and commitment. This is an exciting opportunity to get into the world of business and careers, earn while you learn on the job, gain a business management degree, and have the option to obtain Chartered Manager status. We'll pay for your degree!

What is the role?

The Solent LEP is committed to supporting education and employers to work more closely together to ensure our businesses get the skills they need and all our young people have the opportunity to succeed in careers locally. As part of this programme of work we are creating two Business Engagement and Enterprise Coordinator Degree Apprenticeship positions. The posts will work on the delivery of the Enterprise Adviser Network, Career Hub, and also support the work of the Solent Growth Hub.

You will be required to study for the 'fast track' BA Honours degree in Business Management, over two-years whilst gaining valuable work experience and skills. Successful applicants will have the option to apply for professional recognition as a Chartered Manager and Membership of the Chartered Management Institute (CMgr MCMI). You will need to be able to balance your time around working, attending Southampton Solent University and independent study. This is a terrific opportunity for driven individuals, keen to gain work experience whilst they work towards a degree.

This role is temporary for 2 years.

Who we are

The Solent Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is the key interface and lead for economic development in the Solent area. The LEP is a partnership between the business community, the Higher Education sector, and Local Authorities, all of whom are actively working together to secure a more prosperous and sustainable future for the Solent area.

We are passionate in supporting education and employers to work more closely together to ensure our businesses get the skills they need and all our young people have the opportunity to succeed in careers locally. In partnership with the Careers and Enterprise Company the Solent LEP is working to deliver the Enterprise Adviser Network (EAN) across the region. The EAN bridges the gap between education and employers by pairing individual volunteer Enterprise Advisers (EAs) with a school or college to help build a strategic employer engagement plan to improve careers and enterprise provision within the school. Your role will be critical in making this initiating and supporting these relationships.

The Solent EAN was established in late 2015 and has the stretching ambition of 100% coverage of a volunteer Enterprise Adviser recruited and matched to every school and college in the Solent area by July 2019. The Enterprise Coordinator (EC) sits at the heart of Careers Support, and is part of our wider response to improve careers information and advice in schools and colleges as set out in the Government's recently published Careers Strategy. We are also one of 20 pilot Careers Hub areas in England, so you will be working at the vanguard of the national careers strategy, and helping shape its deliver here in the Solent.

The Solent Growth Hub is a key point of contact for 42,000 businesses in the Solent and has, during 2017, supported over 180 businesses with dedicated, one-to-one support, and provided more than 19,000 sign-postings to businesses to wider support at events and through our dedicated website and local telephone helpline. Your role will involve supporting a wide range of local businesses access the help and advice they need to grow, and so your role will be critical to supporting increased prosperity in the Solent.
