We’re looking for a communications expert to join our growing team!

The right person will have experience delivering stakeholder communications, the ability to address different audiences through various marketing channels and the ability to write informative and engaging copy in support of a brand.

An interest in marketing and communications is important and having a degree in either marketing, journalism or English would be useful (but not essential).

We’re looking for someone who’s creative, a confident writer, who wants to learn more and develop themselves with the support of a great employer.

We’re a small independent charity that works to improve the student experience at the University of Portsmouth. The Marketing & Communications dept is a tight-knit team of five creatives, collaborating to deliver integrated marketing communications and engage over 27,000 students.


  • Support the delivery of the Union’s digital, membership and marketing communication functions
  • Develop engaging content for web, print and social media channels
  • Oversight of volunteers and student staff assisting the department
  • Support the delivery of customer relationship campaigns
  • Develop audience segmentation strategies and relevant content
  • Measure and report digital engagement
  • Monitor social media and press activity 
  • Proactively publish press releases and articles regarding Union impacts 
  • Articulate the Union’s brand story through production of written, image and video based content
  • Support the planning and delivery of charity and commercial campaigns, working with colleagues to define clear objectives and outcomes
  • Support delivery of communications training, staff support and maintain digital equipment
  • Maintain relationships with University communications partners

About You

  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Broad experience of working with different communications channels
  • A champion of social media
  • Organised and good at prioritising tasks, enjoy working in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with others
  • Good eye for design and awareness of brand building techniques
  • Awareness of HE environment, current student issues and the ‘student journey
  • Experience of web publishing and working with CMS (Desirable)
  • Social media advertising (Desirable)
  • Experience of editing photos and graphics (Desirable)
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Desirable)
