Research Associate in Facial Blendshapes (KTP)

- Humain Limited in Belfast, United Kingdom aims to develop the world’s best automated online character creation service. Founded by visual effects and games veteran Prof Greg Maguire (Avatar, Harry Potter, Star Wars), the Company addresses the multi-billion dollar gaming, animation and virtual reality markets by providing a simple and efficient solution to the industries 3D character creation needs. What would have taken days to create a believable character will take seconds with the Company’s online solution.
- Based at Humain Limited in Belfast you will develop a hybrid facial rigging system consisting of joint-driven facial animation and facial blendshapes under the supervision of both industrial and academic supervisors.
- Working closely with the Humain Limited’s development team you will develop a hybrid facial rigging system which combines various facial animation techniques including joint-driven animation and facial blendshapes. You will develop a prototype system within the first six months. After that, you will propose or introduce new techniques in cross parameterization, remeshing, interpolation, and global and local shape control to improve the system for use by the Humain Limited’s development and convert the hybrid system into a SaaS version for use in the SaaS product.
- You will have a first class BSc degree or an MSc degree in computer animation, computer graphics, computer games, or computer science, a PhD degree or PhD student experience in these fields, good knowledge in mathematics, ordinary and partial differential equations, and physics-based geometric modelling and computer animation, and strong computer graphics programming skills especially Maya Mel and plugin programming skills are highly desirable. Candidates with facial animation research experience especially facial rigging research/work experience are encouraged to apply.
