Solent Futures Assistant

Solent Futures have a focus on enhancing student employability across Southampton Solent University and are committed to getting our students and graduates into great graduate careers. We hold regular careers events and workshops, help with finding work experience or placements, check CVs, offer one to one guidance and more.

We are looking for people to work with us between Monday-Friday, on a part time basis to enhance the experience of students, graduates and employers. If you are the type of person that is willing to learn and able to work under pressure, this is an excellent opportunity. You will be assisting us with the implementation of a new process regarding the advice desk, learning about our Solent Graduate Jobs website and understanding its Content Management System (CMS), and developing a project around the promotion of events and jobs.

Hours will be flexible around your timetabled classes, and the post is available for students from all years. Full training will be provided.  

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee the ‘Employers and Solent Futures inbox’, responding to enquiries on a daily basis.
  • Check and approve opportunities on SSU’s jobs board Solent Graduate Jobs (SGJ).
  • Source full-time/part-time jobs, placements, volunteering opportunities and internship schemes, linked to SSU courses.
  • Act as a first point of contact for student engagement in the advice centre.
  • Provide information to students such as the CV guide, signing up to Solent Graduate Jobs, registering for payroll, etc.
  • Data entry to Solent Future’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database, Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Sign post students to relevant advisors in cases where advice is required.
  • Promotion of opportunities to course leaders, societies, and Solent Futures team.
  • Provide occasional administrative support for Solent Future’s events.
  • Develop and run Solent Futures roadshow throughout the year.
  • General office duties.
  • Any other tasks appropriate to level as allocated by the Solent Futures team.

Person specification

Essential skills:

  • Excellent IT Skills – internet, Excel and Word.
  • Confident in using the telephone and communicating face-to-face with a range of people including businesses.
  • Previous experience in customer service would be advantageous.
  • Independent research.
  • Strong team player.
  • Ability to work flexibly and independently.
  • Social Media experience with a strong attention to detail.

You will receive an induction which will cover the Solent Future’s service areas and the overall aims of the team. You will also be trained to use our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database (Microsoft Dynamics), the Content Management System (CMS) on Solent Graduate Jobs, Microsoft Outlook, and understanding Information, Advice, and Guidance (IAG) and its relevance to Solent Futures.

Interview date: Wednesday the 4th October 2017. 

Start date: Week commencing Monday the 16th October 2017.

Salary: £7.50 per hour
