The role is currently banded at a 6 but could be offered as a trainee band 5, with progression to a 6. This could be appropriate to a University Graduate who has undertaken a placement year as part of their degree.

The Information Development team manages the development of financial and non-financial reporting solutions that enable the executive and other key stakeholders to make decisions with confidence.

The Trust is keen for an individual to join the Information Development team to contribute to a variety of projects aimed at improving the availability of information to the Trust as well as supporting National submissions. You will need to possess good technical skills and have an aptitude for data visualization. As an enthusiastic and dynamic team, the ideal candidate will be proactive with a passion for innovation and a drive to deliver effective processes and solutions within an acute NHS Trust.


  • Support development for the reporting of financial and non-financial information available to the Trust.
  • Take a key role in projects delivering complex information processes and solutions across all Trust services.
  • Support reporting solutions that enable stakeholders to quickly identify risks, trends and concerns, in order to make decisions with confidence and speed.
  • Provide technical advice and insight with information solutions, applying knowledge of the latest technological solutions in information production.
  • Interpret, develop, deliver and communicate complex statistical information to a range of audiences, both internal and external.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in the quality, delivery and products available.
  • Proactively and positively contribute to the successful overall performance of the Trust.
  • Deliver excellent levels of customer service to all patients/visitors and staff at the Trust.
  • Develop effective ways of working and create strong partnerships and relationships with all stakeholders to support the implementation of the Government’s policies on Health.
  • Develop an organisational culture that fosters collaborative working among all staff groups, to ensure a focused commitment to delivering quality services and outcomes.
  • Act as an advocate for the Trust & its contribution to the Health Service arena through creating effective partnerships and relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Comply with corporate governance structure in keeping with the principles and standards set out by the Trust.
  • Support the Trust culture of collaborative, flexible cross-team working and commitment to delivering quality services and outcomes, which support the Government’s policies on public health.

  • Undertake proactive horizon scanning for either developments relating to Trust work or opportunities for Trust involvement around health issues
  • Increase the level of knowledge & skills within the Trust through documenting key learning and supporting others to develop their professional abilities.
  • Dissemination of knowledge through engagement in report writing, and reviewing, taking full responsibility for technical accuracy and reliability and being sensitive to the wider implications of that dissemination.
  • Ensure that expertise is seen as a resource within and outside the Trust and form working partnerships with government departments, national agencies and key stakeholders.

  • Assist by offering strategic and technical advice for anyone working on projects.
  • Take an active role in projects where information reporting solutions are required, leading on planning and development of smaller scale projects.
  • Contribute to reporting solutions which provide operational services with intelligence concerning performance measures, such as Accident & Emergency, RTT, Cancer and Diagnostics.
  • Maintain appropriate systems and processes that support financial planning, financial reporting, NHS commissioning and operational decision making, working closely with the core Finance team.
  • Work closely with corporate functions to identify, define and specify functional and non-functional requirements and improvements. Enhance processes to improve transparency, efficiency and accuracy to meet required standards.
  • Write clean and healthy structured, well documented code.
  • Deliver code which is well tested and consistently error free.
  • Undertake system maintenance and support as required, including end user support and training.
  • Maintaining monthly data load processes and user access databases for all reporting solutions, in line with policy, to maintain a high level of security.
  • Present and communicate highly complex or contentious information to a wide range of internal and external audiences.
  • Operate effectively in a flexible and demanding environment and proactively engage with stakeholders. Ability to concentrate for long periods on complex data analysis when work pattern is unpredictable.
  • To make sure written reports and operating procedures for project, departmental and performance purposes are written to appropriate standards and client communication is at an excellent and professional level.
  • Keeping up to date with the latest software development technologies and methodologies. Apply appropriate solutions utilising the latest information technologies.
  • Propose changes in collection and reporting methodologies where efficiency and data quality improvements can be made.
  • Develop and implement a range of data quality measures, to increase transparency and provide assurance that information within the Trust maintains reliability and accuracy.
  • Be aware of Information Governance requirements, including data protection and security threats, reporting these incidents and continuing to monitor via the appropriate forum.
  • Drive and challenge each key working relationship to innovate and encourage changes to achieve agreed objectives.
  • Form effective working partnerships with key stakeholders and support product releases through group and individual knowledge sessions.

About You

  • Specialist knowledge acquired through post graduate diploma level or equivalent relevant experience
  • Strong experience in utilising a range of technical solutions (such as SQL and VBA)
  • Actively participated in a range of information projects
  • Experience of adapting, designing and implementing reporting specifications requested
  • Experience in database scripting languages
  • Hands-on experience of systems and database development
  • Experience of system management and support
  • Experience assimilating and aggregating large volumes of quantitative and qualitative information
  • Experience in business intelligence systems
  • Experience producing and communicating complex information for a range of stakeholders
  • Experience working within an information function, preferably in an NHS Organisation (Desirable)
  • Experience working with financial systems (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of NHS information and clinical services
  • Understanding of project management principles
  • Ability to communicate effectively and challenge decisions where appropriate
  • Knowledge of service access reporting, specifically RTT, Cancer, Diagnostic and Accident & Emergency waiting time targets
  • Knowledge of external reporting requirements by a provider Trust to TDA or equivalent body
  • Understanding of Financial systems and fundamental principles
  • Knowledge of implementation, management and support of BI environments
  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis skills
  • Good technical awareness and IT and ETL skills, particularly utilising VBA, Access and SQL (including SSIS and SSRS) to develop technical solutions
  • Familiarity with the latest technological developments
  • Good understanding in data warehouses and the normalised approaches required when storing information
  • Able to teach and instruct to a small group, and on a one to one basis
  • Good knowledge of data protection, security and information governance
  • Able to write clear standardised code
  • Able to plan out the scheme of work in order to be agreed prior to undertaking
  • Communicate project deviations with lead developers and document any necessary changes
  • Able to work closely with end users to ascertain and balance their requirements with the objectives of the project
