Solent Futures – Project Assistant

Solent Futures have a focus on enhancing student employability across Southampton Solent University and are committed to getting our students and graduates into great graduate careers. We hold regular careers events and workshops, help with finding work experience or placements, check CVs, offer one to one guidance and more.

We are looking for a student to work with us between Monday-Friday, on a part-time basis (up to 10 hours per week) to enhance the experience of students, graduates, and employers.

If you are the type of person that is willing to learn and able to work under pressure, this is an excellent opportunity. The role will be varied, challenging and a great experience for your CV. We are particularly keen for second-year students who have no professional or office experience to apply for the role.

Hours will be flexible around your timetabled classes, and full training will be provided.  Initially, the role is for up to 10 hours per week until May and then we would look to increase the hours over the summer period until September.

You will be working directly with the Employer Engagement team on key projects for the department, aimed at enhancing student’s experience with placement and internship opportunities.

Here are the sorts of tasks we will get you involved with:

  • Assisting with a Solent placement and internship recruitment campaigns
  • Use the CRM (Customer Relationship Management system) to input and conduct research
  • Use Solent Graduate Jobs to upload opportunities and view candidate data
  • Assist with project administration
  • Work with the University’s HireServe recruitment system
  • Liaise and communicate with different levels of seniority
  • Set up meetings using Outlook
  • Chase up outstanding documents and input data into Excel sheets
  • Communicate with candidates to help them to prepare for and turn up for interviews
  • Work with Solent Futures’ social media to help promote opportunities
  • General office duties
  • Any other tasks appropriate to level as allocated by the Solent Futures team.

Someone who is enthusiastic, willing to learn, and able to think for themselves as well as be guided by the team.  You will be motivated and looking to gain as much experience as you can from this opportunity. You need to be reliable and organised and able to listen and take on board the tasks.

Training

You will receive an induction which will cover the Solent Future’s service areas and the aims and objectives of the team. You will also be trained to use our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database (Microsoft Dynamics), the Content Management System (CMS) on Solent Graduate Jobs, Microsoft Outlook, and understanding Information, Advice, and Guidance (IAG) and its relevance to Solent Futures. You will also have access to specialist online job board information via our service provider, Madgex’s Insight programme.
